Since I still hadn't used this year's company travel subsidy, I figured I might as well make the most of it and pick a high-end hotel in Tainan. If the company weren't paying, I probably wouldn't be willing to splurge this much on my own trips 😂. Here's a quick record of the stay.

Silks Place Tainan is a newer hotel under the Regent (Silks) Group. It hasn't been open all that long, so the whole property still feels fresh and modern.
Location
Silks Place Tainan sits close to the Shin Kong Mitsukoshi and Xiaoximen shopping districts, about a ten-minute drive (or half-hour walk) from Tainan Railway Station, and right next to the Blueprint Culture & Creative Park. On foot you can reach many of the city's historic sites as well as plenty of street-food spots, so the location is extremely convenient.
There are free open-air parking spaces outside the hotel, plus indoor parking. Basement levels B5–B7 are reserved exclusively for Silks Place Tainan guests. Just register your license plate at the front desk during check-in and you can come and go freely from the car park until 12:30 p.m. the next day.
Scooters can also park in the basement. You pay first ($20) and keep the receipt; at check-out the hotel refunds you based on the receipt. (P.S. For scooters, you get a total of six entries per one-night stay.)
Hotel Environment
As this was during the COVID-19 (Wuhan pneumonia) outbreak, there was hand sanitizer everywhere in the hotel and staff taking temperatures.
Step through the doors onto the first floor and you're greeted by a very grand lobby.
Keep walking past the lobby and you'll find a distinctive lounge area with a lovely classical feel — it seems like the perfect spot to sit down with a cup of tea.
On the left as you enter the lobby there's another seating area.
A little further ahead is the front desk. The moment you go up to check in, someone hands you a welcome drink — winter melon tea.
It's served warm, not too sweet, and very refreshing.
Once check-in is done, just head to the elevators next to the desk and go up!
Our room was on the fifth floor. Stepping out of the elevator there's a wide open area, and the window beside it looks straight down onto the fourth-floor pool.
The room is very spacious — besides the oversized double beds, there's a large chaise longue by the window.

It's served warm, not too sweet, and very refreshing.
Once check-in is done, just head to the elevators next to the desk and go up!
The Room
Our room was on the fifth floor. Stepping out of the elevator there's a wide open area, and the window beside it looks straight down onto the fourth-floor pool.
The room is very spacious — besides the oversized double beds, there's a large chaise longue by the window.
A welcome fruit plate sits on the table, served on a Taiwan-shaped dish, which is a nice touch.
Turn on the TV and you'll find a personalized welcome message with your name on it
The TV has HDMI / VGA inputs, and best of all it has built-in AirPlay and Chromecast — just connect to the room's Wi-Fi, scan the QR code on the TV, and you can stream Netflix or Spotify straight from your phone!
The room amenities include a capsule coffee machine, with two capsules provided
The bed and pillows were very comfortable, but there's only one power outlet at the bedside — if two people both want to charge overnight, one of you can't keep your phone by the bed, which is slightly inconvenient.
The shower area isn't small either
The bath amenities are from "Wellspring" (Mu Lan), the spa brand under the Silks Group
Besides the basics like toothbrushes and toothpaste, they also provide two facial masks
I didn't really use any of them — I only went to the bar to try a few drinks
As for breakfast, there's a Chinese-style option and a Western-style option. I went for the Chinese breakfast, which is just this small area
The Western venue is bigger, and it actually serves some of the same dishes as the Chinese one. So if you can't decide, it's worth walking through first to look at the spread before choosing.
(You can tell the front-of-house staff you'd like to take a look at the food first)

The fourth floor is where the main facilities are: a swimming pool, a gym, and an outdoor bar

Overall there really wasn't much to complain about; the only thing to consider is that it's a little on the pricey side 😂
If you want a great experience and a comfortable night's stay and the budget allows, I'd definitely recommend giving it a try.
