There are tons and tons of places to stay in downtown Taichung, and the prices are rarely too steep, so every time I come to Taichung I like to try somewhere I haven't stayed before. Back when I was searching for Taichung accommodation, I came across RedDot Hotel. Its biggest signature feature is a giant indoor slide, which is seriously eye-catching! This time we happened to be staying on a weekday and the price was pretty cheap, so we picked RedDot Hotel.
RedDot Hotel was formerly the "Galaxy Hotel," which RedDot later took over and renovated, reopening in 2014. The huge indoor slide and the retro-style design are its biggest selling points.

📍 Location
RedDot Hotel sits on Minzu Road, near the Liuchuan Riverside Walk. It isn't too far from Taichung Railway Station — about a 20-minute walk. That day we took an Uber from the station and arrived in under 10 minutes.
If you're driving, note that the hotel doesn't have its own parking lot, so you'll have to park at an affiliated partner lot — which is how most of the hotels I've stayed at in this area operate.

The moment you reach the entrance you feel the retro American design flair — it has a bit of that Broadway movie vibe, and the reception desk carries the same look, giving you the illusion of having briefly landed in 1980s America. Off to one side of the lobby there's an entire shelf displaying "Chatzutang" (Tsaotang) products; all the bath amenities in the rooms are theirs, so if you like them after trying them in your room you can come down and buy some.

The most eye-catching thing in the ground-floor lobby is undoubtedly the two-story giant indoor slide! If you want to try it, just grab a sliding board from the front desk, then head to the entrance on the second floor and you can slide all the way down to the first-floor lobby. It's only open at set times each day. We rode it once or twice after breakfast — families with kids will love it!

Another thing worth mentioning: even the elevator is full of lights — the floor is one big LED panel that keeps changing colors, incredibly flashy and rainbow-bright!?
🛏 The Room
The guest floors aren't nearly as flamboyant as downstairs — just simple and plain.

The room also goes for a minimalist look. The most distinctive touch is the Hakka floral fabric on the bed, which adds a highlight to the otherwise simple design — it actually photographs surprisingly well. That said, this must be the smallest room type; apart from the bed there's basically no other space... Still, at NT$1,600 a night including breakfast, the value for money is pretty good.

The amenities come in a clear box tied with a luggage-tag-style design, and the coasters also follow the Hakka floral fabric theme — the whole look is quite eye-catching.

👀 Special Exhibition
In one corner of the lobby there's a special exhibition about scent, displaying all sorts of different fragrances; the rack in the middle lets you combine different scents. It's a pretty fun exhibit, though I'm not sure whether it's only running for a limited time.
Overall the stay was pretty OK. The room is small, but the value for money at this price is quite good. Also, since we checked in on a Sunday, the neighboring rooms were empty, so I can't judge how good or bad the soundproofing is.
