Taipei Accommodation | Regent Taipei | Spacious Junior Suite | A Classic Five-Star Hotel in Zhongshan District

Regent Taipei, which began operations in 1990, is a well-established five-star hotel located on Zhongshan North Road. It is also the flagship hotel of the Silks Hotel Group. The location is incredibly convenient, being very close to Zhongshan MRT Station and the Zhongshan shopping district. I believe anyone living in Taipei is no stranger to it.

Besides the hotel itself, what makes it special is the "Regent Galleria," a luxury shopping mall located on its basement levels. There are also many famous restaurants and shops within the building. I have been coming here to eat since I was a child. However, I usually don't stay in hotels in Taipei. This year, I happened to have the opportunity to stay in the same room type twice, so I'm here to share what it's like inside.

📍 Location

Regent Taipei is located on Zhongshan North Road, near Zhongshan MRT Station. In addition to the bustling Zhongshan shopping district nearby, there are also countless restaurants in the area. The location is excellent.

Tamsui-Xinyi Line (Red Line), Zhongshan Station, Exit 3. About a 6-minute walk.

Bus

Bus 218, 220, 221, 227, 247, 260, 261, 287, 310. Get off at the Ambassador Hotel stop and walk for about 3 minutes.

Driving

The entrance to the parking lot is at the intersection of Linsen North Road and Lane 45, Section 2, Zhongshan North Road. Parking spaces aren't plentiful, but there are quite a few other parking lots nearby. Additionally, Regent Taipei has two levels of parking, but only one elevator goes up to the lobby. The elevator isn't very large and is not easy to wait for; waiting times can be quite long during peak hours.

The hotel's reception counter is located on the 2nd floor. The lobby is bright and spacious. Even though the hotel is over 30 years old, the interior is well-maintained. Behind the reception counter is a sofa area where visitors can rest or wait for check-in.

Regent Taipei has always been a popular accommodation choice, which means the lobby is almost always crowded. The noise level is quite high—almost like a market? Although the staff service is good, during both my stays, I couldn't check in on time when arriving between 3-4 PM. I had to wait in the sofa area for nearly 30 minutes for the room to be ready. Moreover, this area is usually full with no seats available, which slightly deducted points from the experience.

Walking further inside, the grand atrium is another impressive feature of Regent Taipei. Around Christmas, there's a three-story tall Christmas tree, accompanied by light shows and music, providing a great experience for dining guests.

When staying at Regent Taipei, you might want to consider trying the famous beef noodle soup at the **azie** restaurant on the first floor. It was once voted "Taipei's Best Beef Noodles" by CNN and has been invited for guest appearances in New York, Tokyo, and Hong Kong. Personally, I think it tastes really good; both the portion and tenderness of the beef are excellent. However, a bowl of beef noodles costs over $500 TWD, so if you're on a budget, trying it once for the experience is probably enough 😅

🛏 Room Environment

The room type for this stay was the **Junior Suite** on the 15th floor, located right next to the elevator. The room is a spacious 19-ping (approx. 63 sq. meters) one-bedroom suite with a living room. Upon entering, there's a foyer separating the entrance from the living area. Although the interior decoration feels a bit dated and can't compare with newer hotels from recent years, the cleanliness and overall maintenance are excellent.

There is a TV in both the living room and the bedroom, as well as large windows. Our side faced Linsen Park, though the view of downtown Taipei isn't particularly spectacular.

The bed in the bedroom is very large (likely two beds joined together) with moderate firmness. It was quite comfortable to sleep in during both stays. Soundproofing is also good; both stays were on weekends (one Saturday night, one Sunday night), and we didn't hear any noise from other rooms or the corridor at night.

The bathroom area is also very large, featuring a shower, a bathtub, and a dressing area. The dressing area has a wardrobe and a safe, but it's not separated from the bathroom by any door; it's all one open space.

🏢 Hotel Facilities

The facilities available to general guests at Regent Taipei are mainly the gym, the heated rooftop pool, and the kids' playroom on the 5th floor. Other facilities like the Wellspring SPA and Sky Studio require additional fees.

🍽 Breakfast

Breakfast is served at **Brasserie**, a buffet restaurant. Due to the pandemic, seating was split into three time slots: 7:00, 8:00, and 9:00. Brasserie is a famous buffet in Taipei and was once the only buffet breakfast in Taipei recommended by CNN. The breakfast is lavish with a wide variety of dishes, and the taste is excellent. For a hotel breakfast, there's really nothing to complain about.

I always thought I wouldn't have many chances to stay at Regent Taipei (since I live nearby...), but after actually staying here, the experience was genuinely good. It lives up to its reputation as a classic hotel that has stood the test of time. Plus, being located in the Zhongshan shopping district means plenty of shopping, sightseeing, and food options nearby—location is definitely one of its advantages. Having stayed at several hotels under the Silks Hotel Group so far, the experiences have been consistently good. It's an accommodation worth recommending and revisiting.
