Kaohsiung Accommodation | Hotel dùa | Near Formosa Boulevard MRT Station | A Comfortable, Conveniently Located Design Hotel

Hotel dùa is a four-star hotel with a strongly modern, design-led style. When I first heard the name, I wondered why it had such an unusual pronunciation — it turns out "dùa" is a homophone of the Taiwanese word for "to stay/live." The idea is to combine Taiwan's people-centred concept of living with the warmth of local hospitality, so that guests feel relaxed in body and mind the moment they check in, always carrying a warm "dùa" feeling in their hearts.

The actual stay really did live up to the name — the whole experience was comfortable, and the location is excellent: it's about a one-minute walk from Formosa Boulevard MRT Station. A friend travelling with me had stayed here before and had a good experience, so we chose this hotel again this time.

📜  Information

📍 Location

Public transport

Take the Kaohsiung MRT Red Line to R10 Formosa Boulevard Station, leave via Exit 6, turn right and walk one minute to reach Hotel dùa.

By car

From National Freeway No. 1, take the Kaohsiung Zhongzheng Road interchange, drive straight along Zhongzheng Road and turn left onto Linsen 1st Road to reach Hotel dùa (about a 10-minute drive).

The car park entrance is in the alley to the right of the hotel

The hotel has a free car park, but there aren't many spaces. We stayed on New Year's Eve and arrived around 4pm, by which time it was almost full. The lowest level uses mechanical parking, so getting in and out takes a while. Also, the car park lift doesn't go directly to the guest room floors — you have to get off at the 1st-floor lobby and transfer to another lift.

🏢 Hotel environment

A very spacious, design-forward lobby

As soon as you enter Hotel dùa you see this spacious lobby, divided into two areas. The counter at the front is the check-in desk, while behind it is a lounge area with books, coffee, computers and plenty of comfortable sofas for guests to rest or gather for a chat in the evening.

The lounge area is very roomy with plenty of seating

The lounge area is very spacious and the décor is comfortable; combined with the lighting it feels quite relaxing, perfect for a few friends to bring some late-night snacks and chat in the evening. There's also a coffee machine you can use for free.

The lift lobby gives off a high-end residential vibe: the ground-floor lobby has a soaring lift area, and each floor's entrance has its own design touches.

🛏  The room

A spacious room

The room is very spacious. Besides an extra-large double bed, there's a sofa area by the window, and next to the wardrobe a long, wide desk stretches out alongside the luggage area. The space is more than sufficient and very functional and comfortable.

The room's atmosphere isn't bright — it's more of an understated, calm warm-toned look. There aren't many lights, so it's on the dim side, which makes for a relaxing stay, though it may be a little too dark if you want to read or work.

Standard amenities

Two complimentary bottles of cola

Bathroom

The bathroom is also good — spacious and comfortable, with separate wet and dry areas and a one-person bathtub. That said, the orientation of the washbasin is a bit odd... it isn't very intuitive to use (not quite what most people are used to).

🏢 Hotel facilities

Apart from the lounge on the ground floor, the only other facility is the dùa gym on the 10th floor.

🍽 Breakfast

Breakfast is served from 06:30–10:00 on the 15th floor; just give your room number. Like most hotels, it's a buffet. The dining area is large, so it's unlikely to be full, and besides the indoor seating there's also an outdoor area.

As for the food, there was quite a good variety and the flavours were decent too. The aisles are wide, so it doesn't feel crowded like the breakfast areas at some hotels — it's a place where you can really relax over breakfast.

In the evening this space becomes the hotel bar

Overall it was a very good stay — the public spaces, the room and the breakfast were all solid, and the soundproofing was decent too; you don't hear every word of the conversations in the corridor like at some hotels.

Since a friend booked the room this time, I didn't do any research beforehand. I later looked up reviews online and found that  Hotel dùa is generally well rated — it's a hotel I'd happily recommend to friends.
