Melbourne may be Australia's coffee capital, but downtown Brisbane is also packed with cafés and brunch spots. Apart from Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, we didn't plan anything in particular in Brisbane, so we took it easy and simply wandered the streets each morning looking for a café for breakfast and coffee.
Since we hadn't done any research beforehand, we would just open Google
Maps the night before or that same morning to see which nearby cafés had higher ratings. That's how we came across Coffee
Iconic, which was very close to our hotel and had quite good reviews.
📍Location
Located on George Street in central Brisbane, Coffee Iconic has a shopfront that isn't very big or eye-catching. Yet every time we walked past during commuting hours or lunchtime, there were plenty of people waiting outside — lots of office workers from the area come here to grab coffee and food.

🏞️ The Setting
The sign actually reads "Coffee Iconic, coffee garden," and its most distinctive feature has to be the outdoor garden dining area out back. Walking down the fire-lane-like alley beside the entrance into the backyard, you'll discover a whole other world — a lush, green outdoor dining garden that feels like a hidden oasis in the middle of the city.

As for the food, Coffee Iconic offers everything from simple breads, croissants and sandwiches to full meals like fried rice, pasta and burgers. Since we only came for breakfast, we just ordered a croissant and coffee, so we can't say how the other dishes taste — but the coffee was really good.
Looking it up afterwards, we found that quite a few people recommend this place and a fair number have written reviews about it — turns out it's fairly well known. The other dishes seem pretty good too, so if you get the chance to visit Brisbane, do try this garden café hidden in the heart of the city.
