For Taiwanese, 24-hour convenience stores are everywhere, so a shop that never closes hardly seems remarkable — but have you ever seen a pancake restaurant open 24 hours a day?
In central Brisbane there's a long-standing pancake restaurant housed inside a century-old church building. Unlike most Australian eateries, which close early, this one is actually open 24 hours a day. Breakfast, lunch, or a late-night supper craving — just like a Taiwanese 24-hour convenience store, it's always open!

The Pancake Manor is not far from the bustling Queen Street Mall shopping area, sitting near the casino close to the intersection of Charlotte St and George St. The building was formerly the century-old St Luke's Church of England, Brisbane, built in 1904. It wasn't until 1979 that it was leased and became The Pancake Manor, giving it more than 40 years of history.

Because it's inside a church building, dining at The Pancake Manor is a rather special experience — just sitting inside already feels atmospheric. Besides the century-old heritage church setting, being open 24 hours is another major highlight! I'm not entirely sure who craves pancakes in the middle of the night, but in Western countries where everything closes early, a 24-hour restaurant like this is genuinely rare.

The interior is spacious with plenty of seating — tables for two, four, or larger groups — making it great for getting together with friends. On the day we visited, we saw families, groups of friends, and even a teacher bringing students in for a meal.

As for the taste, I personally found it just average — the portions are generous but the pancakes were a bit dry, so don't set your expectations too high. If you're after truly outstanding pancakes, there are probably better options elsewhere.
That said, the prices aren't too steep and the decor and atmosphere are genuinely unique. If you're in Brisbane and want to try something different — or you're hungry in the middle of the night with nowhere to go — then The Pancake Manor is worth considering.
