Brisbane's city-centre attractions are even fewer than those in Perth or Melbourne. Story Bridge sits close to the
Fortitude
Valley area — it's a cantilever bridge spanning the Brisbane River, connecting the north and south sides of the city. What makes Story Bridge really special is that it's one of only three bridges in the world that visitors can climb. If you're interested, climbing tours are available for purchase on both

🌉 Story Bridge
Story Bridge
was built on 6 June 1940, and 96% of its construction materials were sourced locally within Australia. Its main purpose is to link the northern and southern parts of Brisbane. As for why it's called "Story Bridge" — the bridge's designer was
John Douglas Story, and the bridge was named after him, hence the name Story Bridge.

The Climb Experience
Since Story Bridge is one of only three climbable bridges in the world, it draws plenty of visitors every year. Although it's called a "climb," it isn't the kind of strenuous hands-and-feet scramble you might imagine — the Story Bridge climb experience is really about walking up a staircase onto the bridge and taking in the views from up top.

🍺 Felons Barrel Hall
Felons Barrel Hall is a beer restaurant opened by the brewery Felons Brewing Co.
right beside Story Bridge on the banks of the Brisbane River. Thanks to its great location — you can admire Story Bridge at night straight from the outdoor seating — the place gets pretty busy in the evenings with people eating and drinking. The venue is actually very large, so you're unlikely to be left without a seat; it's just that the riverside spots fill up early.
We arrived at Story Bridge in the afternoon, and since we hadn't planned anything else, we decided to just have a drink here and then stay on for dinner in the early evening.

To order, just scan the QR code at your table and order online. Once you're done, you can pay directly by credit card — no need to walk over to a counter at all. A server will then bring your food and drinks straight to your table.

The food is just so-so — don't set your expectations too high — but you do get to sit by the river from afternoon through sunset and into the night, taking in views of the Brisbane River and Story Bridge. At the far end near the wharf there's also a beanbag seating area where you can lounge comfortably with a beer in hand and enjoy Story Bridge lit up at night.

If you're not doing the bridge climb, I personally think Story Bridge itself is just okay as an attraction — if you're short on time there's really no need to make a special trip out here, because at the end of the day it's simply an illuminated steel bridge. That said, if you have time to spare, it's worth slowing down when you come to Story Bridge and settling in at the riverside restaurant for a relaxing drink.
