Sun Moon Lake Accommodation | Sun Moon Lake Hotel | Front-Row Lake Views Connected to the Round-the-Lake Cycling Path | Lake-View Soaking Tub | Elegant Lake View Suite

When visiting Sun Moon Lake, most people hope to find a room facing the lake so they can enjoy the beautiful scenery right from inside. Sun Moon Lake Hotel is not only located in the front row facing the lake — its entrance also connects directly to the round-the-lake cycling path, so you only have to head downstairs to reach what has been called one of the ten most beautiful bike paths in the world.

📍 Location

The main entrance on Zhongshan Road, which circles the lake

Sun Moon Lake Hotel has two entrances: one on Zhongshan Road around the lake, and another connecting to the round-the-lake bike path. Check-in is done through the main entrance, and the parking lots are also along Zhongshan Road.

Driving / Parking

Since Sun Moon Lake Hotel doesn't have its own underground parking garage, all parking is in outdoor lots outside the hotel. Because the grounds are small, there are several lots you can use. If you arrive by car, the greeters at the entrance will direct you to a lot with available spaces — none are far away — and you can drop off your luggage at the entrance first before parking.

Public Transportation

Mainly the Taiwan Tourist Shuttle – Sun Moon Lake Route, which takes you directly to Shuishe Pier.

🏢 Hotel Environment & Facilities

The lobby

Although Sun Moon Lake Hotel is a fairly old property, it has been maintained reasonably well, and the overall environment is bright and clean. Its biggest selling point is that the area outside the B2 restaurant connects directly to the round-the-lake bike path, and guests can borrow bicycles for free, available to take on B2.

The indoor facilities are all located on B3, where there's quite a variety to enjoy: a basketball shooting machine, air hockey, foosball, table tennis, billiards, a Switch game room, a PS4 game room, a kids' play area, and more.

🛏  The Room

Rooms come in lake-view and mountain-view types. This time we stayed in the Elegant Lake View Suite, which is very spacious with an overall wood-toned style — both the bedroom and living room have dark wood flooring — though the lighting in the room is on the dim side.

The bed is also very large — a King size made from two single beds put together — with a moderate firmness that makes for a fairly comfortable sleep.

In-room amenities include drip coffee bags, Sun Moon Lake black tea, and cookies

The bathroom is also very large, with wet and dry areas separated, plus a very big soaking tub — during the day you can soak while taking in the Sun Moon Lake scenery.

That said, the bathroom clearly shows the hotel's age — things are a bit dated, with some long-standing water stains.

Outside the living room there's also a small balcony facing the lake. It faces east, so in the morning you can watch the sunrise right from your room.

🍽️ Breakfast & Dinner

Both breakfast and dinner are served at the restaurant on B2. From past visits, there isn't really anything particularly tasty around Sun Moon Lake, and there aren't many places open in the evening, so this time we went straight for the hotel's dinner ($800/person) — which turned out to be a mistake.

Dinner at Sun Moon Lake Hotel is buffet style. Not only was the selection limited, the food really didn't taste good... At $800 per person, it's simply not acceptable. If you're staying here, definitely don't choose it.

Breakfast was just okay — at least not as terrible as the previous night's dinner...

Overall, the stay was just so-so. Apart from the genuinely spacious room, the facilities are showing their age. Even though we stayed on a weekend, for nearly NT$10,000 a night this quality really doesn't feel worth it — especially the add-on dinner, which was truly unacceptable.
