A comfortable, spacious lobby

On our first day in Sendai, we chose to stay at the Daiwa Roynet chain hotel near Hirosedori. The area is lively and convenient, with plenty of restaurants nearby, and Sendai Station is only about a 10–15 minute walk away along the shopping arcade. Overall, the location is pretty great.

📍 Location

The hotel is on Hirosedori; come out of West Exit 5 of Hirosedori Station and you'll see it right away. Besides the many restaurants and the lively atmosphere nearby, there's a Lawson right downstairs, which makes it super easy to grab snacks or breakfast.

🏢 Hotel Facilities

Daiwa Roynet Hotel Sendai Ichibancho is more of a business hotel. Apart from everyday conveniences such as washing machines, vending machines and a microwave, there aren't any other facilities.

On the first floor there's a restaurant that's also open to the public; if you add breakfast to your booking, it's served downstairs as well.

The reception lobby is on the second floor and offers a fairly spacious area where you can take a short break, but eating and drinking aren't allowed in that second-floor lounge, so any late-night snacks or treats you buy have to be eaten back in your own room.

These days, for environmental reasons, hotels no longer hand out amenities automatically; instead they're placed in the lobby for guests to take as needed. Besides the usual items, this hotel offers plenty of cosmetics, steam eye masks, mouthwash and all sorts of bath salts — it's the first time I've seen such a rich selection with everything you could want.

🛏  The Room

We stayed in the Relax Double Room (the official site's translation), and it seems there's only one such room per floor. The best part is that the room comes with a massage chair — perfect for travellers in Japan who walk a lot all day and want to unwind back in the room!

Compared with many hotels in Japan, the room is actually quite roomy. Two 24–26 inch suitcases can be opened up in the room without any problem, and it doesn't feel cramped.

The bathroom is also quite spacious, with a single-person soaking tub where you can use the bath salts you picked up in the lobby. The bathing area is separated from the sink and toilet by a glass door.

Overall, the stay here was a pretty good experience: the bed was just the right firmness and comfortable to sleep on, the soundproofing was good, and the in-room massage chair is perfect for travellers who walk a lot every day. Add in the convenient location — easy for getting around by subway or finding restaurants nearby — and it's a solid choice.
