Morioka is located in Iwate Prefecture, Japan, and is famous for its Morioka cold noodles (reimen) and cherry blossom viewing. The hotel I stayed at this time, "Dormy Inn Morioka," opened in April 2019. It sits near Morioka Station, offers convenient transport links, and the city's downtown area is within walking distance.
Dormy Inn is a hotel chain whose properties all offer hot spring baths and late-night snacks, with breakfasts featuring local specialties. Besides its natural hot spring public bath, Dormy Inn Morioka serves free soba noodles as a late-night snack, and you can also enjoy Morioka cold noodles at breakfast.

📍 Location
Dormy Inn Morioka is on Chuo-dori, about a 15-minute walk from Morioka Station. Since Morioka has no subway, it's still a bit of a hike if you're coming from the station. If you're pulling luggage, consider taking Morioka's downtown loop bus "Dendenmushi" (the Snail), which gets you from the station to the hotel in about ten minutes.

The area around the hotel is mostly a business district, so there aren't many shops open at night and it's quite quiet overall. However, just a five-minute walk away, turning into the alley across from the hotel, you reach a lively area full of restaurants and shops. Morioka Castle Ruins Park is only a 10-minute walk away, and there are convenience stores nearby too, so the location is quite convenient.
🛏 The Room
This time I stayed in a twin room with a long, narrow layout. The toilet is right by the entrance, while the bathroom is at the far end of the room. The beds were just the right firmness and the soundproofing was quite good; the only downside was that the pillows were a bit small.

The shower area in the room is very small — just standing in it feels a bit cramped. But since the hotel has a large public bath, that's probably why the in-room bathroom wasn't made any bigger.
The room was very clean overall and still felt fairly new. It was comfortable to stay in, with no major issues.

Dormy Inn Morioka doesn't have a huge range of facilities — the main draw is the natural hot spring on the top floor (though this probably isn't a genuine hot spring). Every day from 2pm to 9pm, free welcome drinks are available from a self-serve drinks machine.

Outside the large public bath on the 10th floor there's a lounge area stocked with plenty of manga and a vending machine selling beer, so guests can take a break after their bath with a cold beer or a comic book.

🍽️ Breakfast

There isn't a huge selection at breakfast, but there are plenty of Japanese dishes, including Morioka's famous cold noodles (reimen). If you come to Morioka but don't plan to try reimen at a restaurant, you can give it a go at breakfast.
Overall the stay was pretty good with no major drawbacks: the beds were comfortable and the soundproofing was solid. The only issue might be the walking distance from Morioka Station, though for travelers arriving by car the location is quite convenient.
