Sapporo Hotel Review | The Royal Park Canvas - Sapporo Odori Park | Best TV Tower View & Unbeatable Location
When choosing accommodation in Sapporo, my priority was convenience since I rely entirely on public transportation. That is why I selected The Royal Park Canvas - Sapporo Odori Park, located right next to the station.
The location is incredibly convenient. Not only is it situated right beside Odori Park Station, but the room also offers a direct view of the park in the city center. Stepping out of Exit 24 of the subway station, you arrive directly at the hotel entrance. Dragging luggage isn't a hassle here (though do note this exit only has stairs). It is also perfectly positioned for visiting Sapporo Station, Tanukikoji Shopping Arcade, or Susukino.

🏢 Hotel Environment & Facilities
The first floor houses the restaurant, while the main lobby is on the second floor. The lobby features abundant use of wood and plant elements, creating a bright, clean, and slightly Nordic atmosphere. The large floor-to-ceiling windows offer a direct view of Odori Park and the Sapporo TV Tower. It is incredibly comfortable when the sunlight streams in during the day—a space that helps you relax the moment you walk in.

The second-floor lobby is characterized by warm wood tones, soft lighting, and lush greenery. The space is filled with various foliage plants that echo the greenery of Odori Park outside. These plants aren't just decorations but part of the design, creating a healing, natural vibe. Beyond the furniture, the building itself utilizes a significant amount of Hokkaido timber—over 80% is locally sourced.

To one side of the lobby is a wooden DJ booth, the stage for live DJ performances on holiday nights. Behind it lies a wall of vinyl records, which guests can borrow to play in their rooms.

📔 Gallery & Reading Area
🌃 Rooftop
The hotel rooftop features another cozy space: a large open-air deck surrounded by plants. The atmosphere feels like a secret garden within the city, offering an unobstructed view of the Sapporo TV Tower.
During the day, you can sit on the outdoor sofas to enjoy the breeze and sun while watching the TV Tower and Odori Park. At night, decorative lights turn on, and the rooftop offers a seasonal exclusive BBQ menu.
🍸 Canvas Lounge - KOKAGE
Besides the lobby, another attractive space on the 2nd floor is the Canvas Lounge – KOKAGE. It is open from 10:00 AM all the way to 11:00 PM, transforming into a relaxed, party-like bar space at night.
When the TV Tower lights up at night, the lounge takes on a romantic, slightly mysterious atmosphere. With live DJ sets on holiday nights, many non-guests visit specifically for a drink and music. The vibe is excellent—relaxed and comfortable, not overly formal like a typical bar, making it a great place to unwind.
Apple x Japanese Black Tea (900 JPY)
Aomori apple juice mixed with black tea. It has a slight fizz and tastes mostly like a fruit tea with almost no alcohol sensation. Fresh and smooth—perfect for a first drink.
Lavender Gin & Tonic (1400 JPY)
This used the ohoro GIN Limited Edition LAVENDER I had been wanting to buy. It wasn't actually on the menu, but since I couldn't find this bottle during my trip, I asked the bartender if they could make a simple Gin & Tonic with it. It lived up to expectations: the lavender aroma was delicate, and paired with tonic water, it was clean, refreshing, and delicious.
🛏️ Room Environment
I stayed in a wood-toned suite with a view of the TV Tower. The room has great natural light, bright enough even without turning on the lamps. The design is consistently woody, from the furniture to the outlets and speakers. Uniquely, there is no TV in the room; instead, a vinyl record player and magazines are provided, aligning with the hotel’s concept of "relaxing and settling the mind."

There is also a window seat designed by the window. Looking out, you have a completely unobstructed view of Odori Park and the Sapporo TV Tower. During the day, you can sit here basking in the sun, watching pedestrians and the park scenery; at night, when the TV Tower lights up, you can enjoy the night view right from your room. It is incredibly comfortable and gives the room a true vacation feel.

The double bed is actually two single beds pushed together, each with its own duvet. The mattress firmness is moderate, and the room is quite quiet.
🛁 Bathroom
The toilet and bathroom space is moderately sized, continuing the wood-tone design. It feels comfortable and high-quality. Aside from the standard bidet toilet, the bathroom is spacious enough to fit a single bathtub.
Overall, my stay at The Royal Park Canvas – Sapporo Odori Park was a delightful experience. The location is convenient—step out, and you are in Odori Park—making walking, dining, and traveling easy. The consistent wood and plant-filled style creates an atmosphere that is comfortable without being pretentious. I particularly loved the lobby lounge environment; day or night, it’s easy to find a relaxing rhythm there.
As for the room, the bed was comfortable, soundproofing was good, and I rested well. Although there was no TV, I didn't find it to be a drawback; the vinyl music actually made the atmosphere calmer and more stylish. Sitting on the window seat admiring the park and TV Tower was one of the most relaxing moments of the trip.
If you are traveling to Sapporo and looking for a hotel with great design, an excellent location, and a blend of quiet and taste, this is a choice worth considering.
