Sun Moon Lake Accommodation | Sun Moon Lake Teachers’ Hostel | High CP Value Lake View Rooms | Sharing the Same Stunning View as The Lalu

When it comes to hotels with a lake view at Sun Moon Lake, which ones come to mind? The ones with the best views are usually high-end options like The Lalu or Fleur de Chine Hotel. If you plan to visit on a holiday without any special deals, a night at one of these luxury lake-view hotels easily starts at over 10,000 TWD. However, right next to The Lalu, there is actually a high-value accommodation called the "Sun Moon Lake Teachers' Hostel." You can get a lake-view room for less than 4,000 TWD even on holidays, and the angle of the lake view is quite impressive.

In March 1960, Taiwan's first Teachers' Hostel was established on the picturesque shores of Sun Moon Lake, which is the very same Sun Moon Lake Teachers' Hostel we see today. It was damaged during the 921 Earthquake; the original "White Building" was renovated, and the new "Greeting Building" and "Hanxi Building" were constructed after the quake.

📍 Location

Sun Moon Lake Teachers' Hostel is located in the Shuishe Pier area, right next to The Lalu.

  • By Bus: Get off at Shuishe Pier, walk towards Meihe Park, pass through it, and walk straight. You will arrive at the main entrance shared by Sun Moon Lake Teachers' Hostel and The Lalu!
  • By Car: Drive through the road at Meihe Park and head uphill. Be careful as the two roads here are one-way streets (one for entering, one for exiting), so make sure not to go the wrong way.

🏢 Public Spaces

The high-ceilinged Greeting Hall

The reception counter is located in the Greeting Building, which you see immediately upon entering. I was expecting a simple accommodation, but I was pleasantly surprised by the four-story high ceiling in the lobby 😂

Behind the lobby, there is a lounge area with plenty of tables and ample space. It seems quite suitable for discussions, chatting, or having a late-night snack. There is a small bar at the back that looks like it sells tea and drinks, as well as a shop. Since we spent most of the day out and only returned to the hotel at night, I'm not sure if this public space gets busy on weekdays.

🛏 Room Environment

This time, we stayed in a lake-view room on the 4th floor of the Greeting Building. Upon reaching the 4th floor, you can see the atrium lobby and the lake-view rooms to the right. This design with an indoor atrium really reminded me of older hotels I've stayed at in the US, giving a slight illusion of being abroad—a small joy during the pandemic when we couldn't travel overseas (?)

It even has the glass elevators that kids love!

The room is spacious, and even the single beds in the twin room are large. The mattress firmness is moderate, leaning slightly towards firm. The room facilities are simple and clean, providing all the basics. I would consider it clean, business-hotel level quality.

The bathroom has a separate wet and dry area. The space is average, not particularly spacious.

What's special is that there is a small balcony with a simple table and chairs. Here, you can enjoy the lake view directly from the balcony. Whether it's having a late-night drink with snacks or spacing out while gazing at the lake in the morning, it's perfect!

🍽 Breakfast Venue

Breakfast is served at the Peach and Plum Garden Restaurant in a separate building. Although it's a bit of a distance, there are signs along the way so it's not hard to find. The breakfast variety is quite good, offering both Chinese and Western dishes. The taste is decent, a buffet style that will definitely leave you full.

---

If you come to Sun Moon Lake and want to stay in a hotel with a lake view, I have to say that Sun Moon Lake Teachers' Hostel is really a bargain. After all, the location is excellent. The only downside might be that for guests getting off at Shuishe Pier by bus, there is a bit of a walk. The overall stay experience is like a clean business hotel; the facilities are simple but cover all the basics. It's perfect for those who want to save money but still experience a lake-view room.
