Bangkok Hotels | Ascott Embassy Sathorn Bangkok | Five-Star Serviced Apartment Hotel | Rooftop Infinity Pool

For this trip to Bangkok we chose two different places to stay. Besides the Karaarom Hotel where we stayed during the first half of the trip, for the second half we checked into Ascott Embassy Sathorn Bangkok.

This hotel opened in 2022 and belongs to Singapore's The Ascott Limited. The facilities are all quite new, blending the homey feel of an apartment with high-end five-star hotel service, and it isn't far from either Sala Daeng BTS Station or Chong Nonsi Station, making it very convenient to get around.

📜  Information

📍 Location

Ascott Embassy Sathorn Bangkok sits on the busy S Sathon Rd, roughly midway between Sala Daeng BTS Station and Chong Nonsi Station. Either station is fairly convenient for catching the BTS, with both about a 10-minute walk away.

That said, Bangkok traffic is truly terrifying. On S Sathon Rd, where the hotel is located, traffic already gets heavy around 10 in the morning and stays jammed until night. One day we called a Grab near the hotel and it took half an hour just to get off this road...

The hotel entrance is fairly inconspicuous, and there isn't much parking space at the drop-off area — it's quite low key, so if you're not paying attention you might mistake it for an office building and walk right past.

The hotel offers a free shuttle to the BTS station and to Icon Siam (weekends only)

🏢 Hotel Environment & Facilities

The ground-floor reception lobby

The ground-floor lobby of Ascott Embassy Sathorn Bangkok isn't very big, so during peak check-in and check-out times it feels quite crowded, and there aren't many seats on either side for guests to rest. We arrived around noon, when the lobby was packed and the flow of people felt a bit chaotic.

Residence Lounge

📍 Location: 9th floor
⏰ Opening hours: 06:00 - 22:00

Most of the facilities at Ascott Embassy Sathorn Bangkok are concentrated on the 9th floor and the 9M mezzanine, and the Residence Lounge is on the 9th floor. It's a spacious room with high ceilings, and there's a daily Buy 2 Get 1 Free Happy Hour (5 - 7 PM).

The seating and space here are far more comfortable than the lobby downstairs — a great spot to rest and grab a drink between outings. We also signed up for hotel membership during this stay, which came with one complimentary drink (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) per person. We ordered two non-alcoholic signature drinks and both were quite tasty.

Sweet Lavender - taro milk, coconut milk and nata de coco

Golden Groove - mango, lemon and coconut milk

Infinity Swimming Pool

📍 Location: 9th floor
⏰ Opening hours: 06:00 - 22:00

Just outside the Residence Lounge is a rooftop infinity pool with sweeping views — a hotspot for photo-worthy shots. Guests can also order a drink from the lounge and enjoy it poolside at their leisure.

The sauna and lockers are tucked away inside the restrooms

Gymnasium

📍 Location: 9M floor
⏰ Opening hours: 06:00 - 22:00

On the 9M floor there's a fairly large gym. For a hotel gym it has plenty of equipment, enough to cover basic workout needs. There's also a water dispenser for guests to use. Besides taking the elevator straight up, you can also walk up via the stairs beside the pool, which makes getting around quite easy.

🛏  The Room

This time we stayed in the most basic Deluxe Hotel Room, breakfast included. Check-in is after 14:00 and check-out is before noon the next day, giving you a bit more time in the room than at many other hotels.

As a standard room, it doesn't come with a kitchen or washing machine like the serviced-apartment units, but the space is a decent size — laying out two large suitcases fully open was no problem at all. The room is clean and uncluttered overall, with plenty of natural light. The only shame was that although we stayed on the 26th floor, our window faced directly onto another building, so there was no view to speak of.

🍽️ Breakfast

Breakfast is served at the Chinese restaurant "Xin Gu" on the 37th floor, where the views are excellent — the dining area is lined with floor-to-ceiling windows for a wide-open outlook. Coming here in the morning to enjoy breakfast while taking in Bangkok's skyline makes for a relaxed, comfortable and very pleasant dining experience.

The dining area is bright and open

The food selection isn't especially wide, and taste is subjective, but personally I didn't find it particularly delicious — a real drawback, and a shame given such a lovely dining setting.

Overall, this was a pretty good stay. The bed was just the right firmness and the soundproofing was solid, so we slept well. The room design is clean and simple with plenty of natural light, making it very comfortable to stay in. On top of that, the hotel's location is convenient — easy to reach nearby attractions whether by public transport or on foot.

What's more, since the hotel has only been open a few years, the hardware is all still new; the in-room fittings, the gym and the infinity pool are all well maintained, and it certainly lives up to expectations for a five-star hotel. The only letdown was breakfast, which wasn't particularly impressive — a bit of a shame.
