Taipei Bars | KNOCK KNOCK WHO'S THERE? | Opening the Door Between Eastern and Western Food Culture | Da'an District Bar

KNOCK KNOCK WHO'S THERE? (hereafter "Knock Knock") is a new bar that opened at the end of 2023 / beginning of this year, founded by two industry veterans, Kevin and Emma. Between the overall atmosphere, the delicious food and the flavors of the cocktails, I can honestly say it is my favorite bar of late.

📜 Information

🏢  Interior and Location

Knock Knock sits in Taipei's prime bar battleground — the Xinyi Anhe area. It's not far from either Daan Station or Xinyi Anhe Station, and just across Dunhua South Road you'll find another famous bar, "The Public House," so the location is very convenient.

Knock Knock spans two floors, and it aims to offer more than just a place to drink — it's a multi-purpose space bridging art, creativity and cocktails. The first and second floors are separate, each designed to convey a different mood. The first floor is great for a casual drink and a meal.

The second floor focuses on cocktails. Food is also served up here to pair with your drinks — and setting the cocktails aside for a moment, Knock Knock's food is among the best I've eaten at any bar.

The second floor is split into the bar counter and a seating area at the back; you can choose when booking

🍸 Cocktails

Knock Knock really shines when it comes to cocktails. The menus for both of the past two seasons have been built around different flavor themes, presenting a contrast between Eastern and Western food cultures. Beyond the sweet flavors most people would expect, there are plenty of intriguing savory themes too.

Last Season's Menu

It was divided into six major themes — flowers, tea, soup, green sauces, peanuts, and finally desserts — each expressed through different Eastern and Western motifs. My personal favorite was the Peanut Butter Burger: balanced between sweet and sour, with buttery, nutty aromas, it was both fascinating and delicious.

This Season's Menu (Sept 2024 onward)

This season's menu is likewise built around six themes — breakfast, tea, small bites, soup, red dishes, and finally dessert — again drawing on both Eastern and Western motifs to create distinctive cocktails.

Breakfast

Fruit Croissant

Japanese-style Breakfast

Tea

English Rose Black Tea

Taiwan Fu Wan Cacao Tea

Small Bites

Beetroot and Citrus Salad

Caozaiguo (Mugwort Rice Cake)

This was my favorite drink of the season. Like last season's Peanut Butter Burger, it takes something normally savory and turns it into a cocktail balanced between sweet and sour, with flavors reminiscent of the salty-sweet mugwort rice cake. It sounds like an impossible pairing, but the flavors blend beautifully — my friend said it reminded him of pork rib soup. Very tasty and easy to keep sipping.

Soup

Cream of Corn Soup

Pickled Pineapple and Bitter Melon Soup

Red Dishes

Red Sauce Mary

Laksa Colada

Dessert

Mango Pomelo Sago

Besides the signature cocktails, we also tried a few classics such as the Aviation, Bee's Knees, Negroni and Ramos Gin Fizz — all very well made. Knock Knock performs strongly across the board: space, atmosphere, cocktails and food, with a high level of polish overall. It's well worth recommending, and my friends and I have been back many times.
