Hakodate Accommodation | Tokyu Stay Hakodate Asaichi Akarinoyu | Near JR Hakodate Station and Hakodate Morning Market | Convenient Location | Affordable Hotel

The first stop on this Hokkaido trip was Hakodate. Since we would be taking the JR onward to Lake Toya, we wanted accommodation with convenient transport that wasn't too far from the attractions. In the end we narrowed it down to a few options near the JR station and Hakodate Morning Market. Not only did we find the transport very convenient, but accommodation in Hakodate is also quite cheap compared to other cities!

We had previously stayed at a Tokyu-brand hotel in Osaka and had a good experience, so this time we chose another Tokyu property—Tokyu Stay Hakodate Asaichi Akarinoyu.

📜  Information

📍 Location

The hotel is located in the center of Hakodate. From Hakodate JR Station it's about a 5-minute walk—just cut through the Hakodate Morning Market and you're there. Transport is extremely convenient and the location is excellent. Although we didn't drive this time, there are several parking lots around the hotel, which is also very convenient for self-drive travelers.

Public Transport

  • About a 4-minute walk from "Hakodate" Station on the JR Hakodate Main Line
  • About 20 minutes by bus heading toward Hakodate Station from Hakodate Airport

Partner Parking

The hotel partners with the "Hakodate Morning Market Parking Lot" on its left side. Parking hours are from 3:00 PM until 11:00 AM the next morning, and the total fee is just 1,000 JPY per day including tax.

🏢 Hotel Environment & Facilities

The front desk is in the ground-floor lobby, where you check in or get any assistance you need. The ground-floor lobby isn't large; besides the front desk, there's a small ice cream shop open to the public—the "MÚCCARUS" ice cream specialty store.

Daily newspapers are also provided

Akarinoyu (Bath)

On the 18th-floor rooftop there is an open-air hot spring where you can soak while enjoying the view—Hakodate Bay on one side and the city's night view on the other. Bathing hours:※ Men's and women's baths alternate

  • 3:00 PM – 1:00 AM

Lounge & Bar

After soaking, there's a lounge one floor below where guests can relax post-bath and order a refreshing beer at the bar. You can gaze out over the harbor's night view from here—the scenery is beautiful.

The lounge "Kagayaki" offers various drinks such as beer, whiskey, and some special liquors (e.g., strawberry and mango fruit liqueurs), or a non-alcoholic drink paired with Hokkaido ice cream.

During the day, although the bar isn't open, guests can still come to this lounge freely. Here you can enjoy coffee from the coffee machine along with the morning sea view.

🛏  Room Environment

This time we stayed in a double-bed room facing the direction of the Hakodate Morning Market—first thing in the morning you can see the crowds at the market from the window. The room was quite spacious, not as cramped as typical Japanese accommodation, and the soundproofing was fairly good too.

The room is quite well-equipped—everything you'd need is there, including the humidifier that's almost standard in Japanese hotels. What's special is that there's even a machine for drying shoes (maybe because Hakodate's weather tends to be damp?). An ice bucket is also provided, so you can go to the ice machine in the hallway to fill it—very handy when you want a cold drink in the middle of the night.

The bed's firmness was just right—a comfortable firmness that won't leave you with a sore back.

A set of glasses and a set of mugs are provided

The best thing about this hotel is that the room comes with its own washing machine! Laundry detergent is even provided, so guests can wash their clothes right in the room without queuing to use the shared area.

The slippers aren't the uncomfortable paper kind either

The two-piece yukata is quite comfortable to wear as pajamas

Although the bathroom isn't very large, it does have a bathtub, and overall it's spacious and comfortable to use.

They use Japan's POLA brand

For breakfast, they partner with shops at the Hakodate Morning Market, so we didn't add it on—we just went straight to the market to see what we wanted to eat.

Our stay at Tokyu Stay Hakodate Asaichi Akarinoyu was quite good. Besides the convenient location, the room's spaciousness and views were great. If you're looking for accommodation near JR Hakodate Station, this is worth considering.
