Ivorish, which got its start in Fukuoka, has always been a highly recommended shop online. Very often, if you simply google "Fukuoka desserts," the results will include Quil Fait Bon and, in second place, most likely Ivorish!

Hailed as one of Fukuoka's must-eat spots, Ivorish specializes in all kinds of sweet and savory dishes made with French toast. On the last day of this Northern Kyushu trip, we picked this shop for brunch at midday — we went to the "Ivorish Fukuoka Main Store." Actually, a while back Ivorish also opened a branch in Taiwan, located inside the MITSUI OUTLET PARK in Taichung.

An easy-to-spot storefront

The Ivorish Fukuoka Main Store is located between Tenjin Station and Akasaka Station. An easier way to remember it is that it's in the alley behind Ichiran Ramen. You can come out of the Tenjin Underground Mall's "West 6" exit toward Iwataya, and once you see Ichiran Ramen, head into the alley on the right and you'll find the Ivorish Fukuoka Main Store!

🍽 The Interior

Since we'd planned from the start to have this as brunch, we skipped breakfast and came straight over. We arrived around 11 a.m., and there were hardly any customers yet, so there was no wait.

The Ivorish Fukuoka Main Store has two floors. The first floor features an open-kitchen design, with L-shaped seating wrapping around the glass-fronted open kitchen, so you can watch the food being made — a bit like sitting at a bar watching the bartender mix drinks. It seems like a pretty nice experience, though perhaps because the shop was still fairly empty, we were led straight up to the second-floor seating area as soon as we walked in.

The second-floor seating area isn't very large, but the space is designed to be quite comfortable. We were seated in the area against the wall. The wall decor is simple, yet it has a warm, cozy design sense to it.

🍽 The Food

Since we wanted it to be brunch but also wanted to try the sweets, we finally decided to order one savory dish and one sweet dish — that way we could sample the savory side and still get dessert.

Eggs Benedict (¥ 1,400)

Underneath is French toast, topped with eggs Benedict. The eggs Benedict paired with French toast and salty prosciutto actually tastes quite good. The salad on the side keeps it from feeling too salty or heavy. Overall it was pretty decent.

Rare Cheese (Regular ¥ 1,700)

The other plate we ordered was the dessert: crispy French toast topped with whipped cream and fresh strawberries, plus a scoop of ice cream to go with it. What impressed me most was the French toast at the bottom — very crispy, with a texture quite different from what I'd expected. Especially when eaten together with the ice cream, the combination is really quite good. It's a memorable dessert that I'd want to have again next time!

Since we were there during lunch hours, each meal came with a simple complimentary drink; we just ordered a plain americano and a tea.

Overall the dining experience was pretty good, though we only tried two items. How the rest of the menu is will have to wait until my next visit, or for others to actually go try it and share their experiences. If you're interested, give Ivorish a try when you're in Fukuoka, or just head to the Taichung branch — it works well for either afternoon tea or brunch.
